The reality check concerning cyber crime

Far too often accountants say “It just wont happen to me!”, when it comes to cyber crime although the reality is that accountants are a prime target due to their access to sensitive information. The frequency of attacks is increasing, as well as enhanced sophistication of attacks, so this belief that cyber crime won’t affect accountants could be detrimental. In 2016 alone ransomware attacks increased by 113%, and phishing attacks by 30% – proof that it is not a matter of if, but when, an accountant becomes a victim of cyber crime.

Accountancy Insurance’s Associate Director of Professional Risks, Karen McDonald, will provide insights on cyber crime affecting Australian accountants, and a live hack demonstration will also be undertaken during the Accountancy Insurance presentation at the Accounting Business Expo. The presentation will reveal just how simple a hacker can obtain information, despite the preventative measures of firewalls and anti-virus protection.

If you are yet to register to the highly anticipated expo taking place from 21st March in Sydney, or would like to find out more information, go to http://www.accountingbusiness.com.au/
