A year ago the ATO issued ‘Single Touch Payroll Deferral Notices’ for clients with 20 or more employees. The new start date of 31/5/19 was described as a reasonable time to on-board and start Single Touch Payroll reporting. Clients face ATO penalties unless they start reporting on or before this date. In exceptional circumstances they can apply for a special deferral. But for most, 31/5/19 is just a few weeks away.
“We are sending our ATO Deferral Notice to both advisors and clients with 20 or more staff so they can see this is not a sales pitch by payroll software providers,” says Mike Rich, Co-Founder of Attaché Software.
“But the clients who really concern me are those with 19 or under employees, despite the ATO pushing the STP start date to on or before 30/9/19. In particular, those with old multi-user desktop systems who also face ‘end-of-lifecycle’ hardware and software issues. The recent Federal Budget instant write-off up to $30,000 will help everyone upgrade their hardware.
