The Australian government has announced a 12-month pilot program, Training For Employment Scholarship, that is available in a number of regional and outer metropolitan areas.
The objectives of Training for Employment Scholarship are to provide businesses with greater access to appropriately skilled workers in their region and improve job prospects for young people aged 18 to 24 by:
- providing incentives for employers to take on new workers;
- supporting employer-led training that is tailored to a specific job; and
- providing a pathway for unemployed young people into long-term work.
Training for Employment Scholarship supports businesses by providing grant funding for up to 26 weeks of job-specific training for their eligible new employees. Businesses will benefit by having access to support for the cost of training new employees for developing skills they need.
Grants of up to $7,500 (including GST) per eligible employee are available to employers with less than 200 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees.
Eligible employers must have an ABN and be located in one or more of the target regions.
Training for Employment Scholarship is available for businesses located in the following areas:
- NSW – Central Coast
- NSW – Hunter Valley (excluding Newcastle)
- NSW – Sydney-Outer Western/Blue Mountains
- QLD – Sunshine Coast
- QLD – Ipswich
- QLD – Townsville
- VIC – Mornington Peninsula
- VIC – Melbourne-West
- SA – Adelaide-North
- WA – Perth-Southwest
- TAS – Launceston-Northeast
